Cold.
Very Cold.
And Wet.
Very Wet.
She drew a deep, shaky breath and tried to move.
Pain.
She stopped.
She drew another breath.
Better.
She began to slowly stretch her hand.
Pain.
Bearable.
Her fingers dragged across something damp and cold and grainy.
Sand?
Her mind conjured up something familiar. There was a flash of blonde hair and white teeth... and there was a laugh... such a beautiful laugh... and there was water, water, water and sand, sand, sand...
Her eyelids flickered open, and she remembered she could see.
Green.
Very green.
Cold.
Very Cold.
Wet.
Very Wet.
Another breath.
Better.
Her eyes began to focus slowly, she made out tall towering giants with green hair.
Blink.
Trees. Leaves. Forest. Sunlight.
Her brain processed the images.
"Gwen?" There was a voice. A beautiful voice. She knew this voice. Blonde hair and white teeth... such a beautiful laugh...
"Gwen, Guinevere! Can you hear me Gwen? Please, please be alive. Please."
Distress.
Breathe.
Blink.
"Ar-thur?" her mind brought forward the word.
"Guinevere?" Loud. Too loud.
"Arthur!" Shout. Effort. Pain.
Green turned to gold. Blink. Blonde hair and white teeth. Arthur's face. "Gwen, oh Guinevere." Tears. Distress.
"Where are we?'' Each word took effort.
"I don't know, I don't know." Arthur was crying.
"Guinevere..." she paused. Breathe. Blink. "Is that my name?"
"Yes, Guinevere, stay with me Gwen." Arthur supported her head with his hand, his other hand reached down to her legs.
Stay with me...? Gwen didn't understand.
Then she felt herself being lifted off the ground.
Pain.
Noise. Loud Noise. Screaming.
Was that me?
"Stay with me Gwen, keep breathing for me, breathe!"
Effort. Breathe. Pain.
The Green above is mixed with Gold. It moves slowly. There is a pain with every step he takes.
She's being carried.
Her hand is limp. She grasps for his arm.
Red. Her hand is red. Why is it red?
"My God." Arthur cries. "I won't let you die Gwen, Guinevere! Stay with me. For God's sake don't leave me."
Black.
Nothing.
White.
Pain.
A noise escapes her mouth. A groan.
Too bright, too bright.
She adjusts slowly. Something blocks the light.
Relief.
Soft. Warm. Comfortable.
She opens her eyes.
A crow.
Blink.
A woman.
"Gwen! Oh Gwen, you've awake. I knew you would be, I knew you'd be alright!"
There was no flash of memory. No feeling of warmth. Where was Arthur?
Effort. Pain. "Who are you?"
Blink.
"It's me, Gwen... It's Morgana." The silky black hair and green eyes captivate Gwen, but no recollection.
"Where's Arthur?" Pain. Effort. Longing.
Morgana looks confused... no... embarrassed?
"He's... not himself." Morgana flushes. Gwen finds herself surprised, she never imagined such an elegant dark creature could wear that expression.... humiliation? "He doesn't remember anyone. He keeps calling for you. Uther is getting suspicious."
Who's Uther? she thinks, but decides it's too much effort to say aloud. Too much effort to keep her eyelids open another second. Too much... she drifts into unconciousness.
Darkness.
Light.
Hot. Stuffy. Uncomfortable.
Eyes flutter open.
Orange. Red. Flowers. Blink. Fire. Fireplace.
Gold.
Arthur.
"Guinevere!" Relief. Happiness... Love?
"Arthur." Without thought, the sides of her mouth have turned upwards. Smile.
"They wouldn't let me come." Sadness. Anger. Frustration.
"Who?" Annoyed. She wants them to go away. She wants to hear the beautiful laugh. Blonde hair and white teeth.
"I don't know. I don't remember." Unconcerned.
"I don't remember either." Pause. "I don't care."
He laughs. That beautiful laugh. Blonde hair and white teeth. And now he's leaning down towards her. Pink lips.
She doesn't need to remember to breathe any more. She doesn't need to remember to blink. She doesn't need to remember anything.
Only Arthur.
And in that moment, he agrees.
